SUMMER BEGINS
Promenade at AMFAR GALA CANNES 25 by KEVIN TACHMAN

Johnny is just back from spinning what is always an elegant and unparalleled evening – the annual AMFAR GALA CANNES during the Cannes Film Festival. Last week’s 25th annual edition was performance-rich (GRACE JONES, STING + SHAGGY, etc.) and raised millions of euros for AMFAR’s lifesaving work. It was Johnny’s eighth year, and always starts his Summer with cinematic scenes like this. He’s back to kick off Memorial Day weekend with DWORLD at the ICE PALACE on Fire Island tonight. Other early Summer highlights are Italy for MAX MARA RESORT ’19 and an exciting collaboration with artist NICK CAVE on June 10. All details below the obligatory GDPR Privacy Update. As always Thanks for Dancing!

THE JACKIE FACTORY presented its 28th annual NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES recently at IRVING PLAZA, NOTS 28:STARBRIGHT. Though Johnny doesn’t spin for the event, he is the co-producer and Musical Director – and as you can see in this backstage shot, wears a mean Medieval Knight costume (center). MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

THE DWORLD UNDERWEAR PARTY
RETURNS TO THE ICE PALACE, F.I.

THE ICE PALACE, FIRE ISLAND
Fridays From May 25

Big Daddy of Indie Gay Nightlife DANIEL NARDICIO has been producing his DWORLD UNDERWEAR PARTY for more than a decade in NYC, and brought it successfully to Fire Island’s raunchier sister CHERRY GROVE some years ago. The weekly hosts between 500-1000 visitors each Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Often copied, it really is hard to top for energy and eye candy. TIME OUT NY calls it “The gold standard of the island and the start to any wild weekend.” Johnny begins his fourth Summer residency there on Friday, and continues June 1 and 15th and most Fridays through mid-September. He looks forward to seeing (and spinning for) his “Island Family” on the decks of the iconic venue THE ICE PALACE, home to so much dance music history.

THE LET GO

SUNDAY JUNE 10
NICK CAVE AT THE PARK AVENUE ARMORY

Animating PARK AVENUE ARMORY with the sights, sounds, and movement of renowned interdisciplinary artist NICK CAVE, THE LET GO will transform the Armory’s Wade Thompson Drill Hall into a dance-based town hall that brings together visitors to participate in a collective act of catharsis. The Armory’s 2018 visual arts commission builds on Cave’s hybrid, multisensory practice with an ambitious project— encompassing performance, installation, dance-based encounters, and soundtracks by some of New York’s leading DJs—that provides a backdrop for audiences to dispel negativity and uplift one another. On view June 7 through July 1, 2018, The Let Go will feature a series of soundsuits, wearable sculptures that create a second skin to conceal race, gender, and class, that will come to life in a new “Up Right” performance conceived for the Armory’s historic interiors.

The Armory’s Drill Hall will take on a dance-hall atmosphere by immersing visitors within Cave’s newest installation, a monumental, 40-foot-tall, kinetic, multi-colored Mylar sculpture referencing social justice issues that expresses the sense of freedom and self-expression one gets when they “let go” on the dance floor. Through a series of daytime happenings, visitors and community organizations such as yoga practitioners, hula-hoopers, church choirs, and PTA groups will be invited to come together to express themselves through movement and work out frustrations to music curated by some of New York’s leading DJs.
